Pennies for Pasta SG Fundraiser

Today, Robin Shaw from the Leukemia / Lymphoma Society (LLS) visited with students from Claxton Student Government. At the initiative of school counselor Mark Ackerman,  students will help run and organize Pasta for Pennies, a fund raiser to help the LLS. As part of this worthy effort, Claxton will collect spare change to aid in cancer research. The classroom collecting the most money will receive a catered lunch from Olive Garden.

Expect to hear lots more about this opportunity!

AIG Update

Happy New Year! In January, our AIG groups have been working on the following:
5th Grade continues to work on scales they’ve written modeled on Sir Francis Beaufort’s Wind Scale. Students have been using the table maker tool in Microsoft Word to make slick looking graphics. We’ll wrap these up in the coming weeks with presentations available on my blog. A self-assessment rubric will come home upon completion.
4th grade readers wrapped up 2013 by performing poems for 2 voices by Paul Fleischman. These videos are currently available on the blog. These students have begun reading The House with a Clock in Its Walls as our next novel assignment.
4th grade mathematicians are completing work with Hands-On Equations, a great way to introduce algebraic principles with tactile math tools. This work will be completed and their lessons sent home (hopefully) by the end of January.
Our 4th grade aptitude group will complete personal profile PowerPoint presentations. Students will shoot video of their presentations so they can be viewed via my blog. Students will self-assess using a rubric.
I do send out email updates, so please provide me with an email address if you have not done so. Many thanks for your continued support
